WASHINGTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–200 longevity professionals attended the November 1st Fasano Longevity Conference in Washington, DC. The Conference, which was in hybrid format, with about half attending in person and half attending virtually, focused on a wide range of topics bearing on longevity markets, mortality and the economy.
The Conference opened with two research presentations: The Impact of Sex on Gene Expression, Disease and Mortality by Dr. Barbara Stranger of Northwestern University and The Risks and Benefits of Marijuana versus Opioids in Pain Relief by Dr. Steven Rigatti.
The research presentations were followed by keynote speaker, Tony Roth, Chief Investment Officer of Wilmington Trust, who predicted above-trend rate growth in his presentation on the Post-Covid Investment Outlook.
The morning sessions ended with a “State of the Life Settlement Market” presentation by LISA Executive Director, Bryan Nicholson, while the afternoon sessions began with a legal analysis of current Delaware-based litigation affecting the life settlement industry by James Westerlind of Arent Fox and Kenneth Brown of Williams & Connolly.
The final three sessions covered different aspects of mortality: Matt Morton, Chief Actuary of LTCG, drew on an extensive database of long-term care patients to share his insight on the changes in mortality that occur as functional status declines, while PBI CEO, John Bikus, detailed how artificial intelligence and obituary research has filled the death identification gap created by regulatory changes limiting the efficacy of the Master Death File.
The Conference closed with an analysis by Dan Zollars of Maple Life Analytics of Mortality Differences in Secondary versus Tertiary Life Settlement Markets.
Said Michael Fasano, President of Fasano Associates, “This year’s Conference covered a very interesting mix of investment, life settlement industry and research issues.” Fasano described his Conference as “Investor Focused.” He added: “This year’s hybrid format gave us the face-to-face dynamic of a live conference, while allowing those not yet ready to travel to still participate in the thoughtful discussions that followed the presentations.”
DVDs of the Conference are available (mfasano@fasanoassociates.com) for $395. Next year’s Fasano Longevity Conference will be held on Monday, November 7th in Washington, DC.
