Curaleaf is considered a Route 73 location near a day care center and neighborhood, plans show.

MOUNT LAUREL — A medical marijuana dispensary could be coming to Route 73, and will be reviewed by the zoning board next week.

Among the factors the zoning board will consider is the dispensary’s proposed location.

Curaleaf’s facility at 1315 Route 73 would sit about 800 feet from a residential area surrounding Amberfield Drive and about 950 feet from Just Children Child Care, a daycare center at 14000 Commerce Parkway, according to the company.

Township regulations state a requirement of at least 1,000 feet from residential communities, schools, churches and day cares.

Curaleaf — the the nation’s “largest cannabis-based business” with locations in at least 14 states, according to the company — deserves a variance because the dispensary would provide medical benefits to the community, Curaleaf’s attorney Frank Tedesco said in the company’s application.

Cualeaf already has a state license for the proposed retail sale of medical marijunana.

The company has operated a Camden County facility since 2015.

In the last five years distribution at the Bellmawr location has “grown to the extend that Curaleaf is required to open additional locations within southern New Jersey, including Mount Laurel,” to lessen the burden on the Camden facility, according to CherylLynn Walters, also an attorney for the applicant.

The Mount Laurel dispensary would be strictly retail with no on-site production or manufacturing. All products would be manufactured elsewhere and delivered to the site in pre-packaged, vacuum-sealed bags, according to Curaleaf.

The facility would be open seven days a week 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and employ 10 to 15 people, according to Curaleaf.

Plans show the company’s proposed Route 73 location is a 2.1-acre lot owned by Dalducci Inc., of Haddonfield.

The proposed building would be 16,225 square feet, of which 8,000 square feet would be used by the dispensary and 8,225 square feet would be unoccupied, according to Curaleaf’s plan.

In a letter to township zoning officials, Curaleaf noted it would unload products through a secure loading area to be stored in a secure internal vault.

The zoning board will consider Curaleaf’s variance request at an electronic Zoom meeting Aug. 5, 7 p.m.
