Martha Stewart is getting high on her own supply.
The 79-year-old in an interview with the New York Times spoke about Martha Stewart CBD, her new line of products with Canadian cannabis giant Canopy Growth.
When asked by reporter Sheila Marikar how many gummies one should try, Stewart said, “It depends on who you are. I pop 20 [CBD gummies] and just feel okay, but some of my friends do two and feel high, I don’t know why. It’s not high like a marijuana high. It’s a CBD high, like, relaxed.’”
CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is a psychoactive but non-intoxicating compound derived from the cannabis plant. Twenty of Stewart’s gummies would add up to a dose of about 200 to 500 mg of CBD, depending on the product.
“You don’t think that you’re eating anything but pâte de fruit,” she told Marikar during the interview, over the course of which she reportedly consumed four gummies. “I’m having a black raspberry right now.”
For the lifestyle maven, a significant part of the project’s appeal appears to be the skyrocketing popularity of cannabis, and CBD in particular, over the past few years
“I’m very interested in what is new and what is happening,” she told the Times. “Like, I have an electric car. I have a Tesla. I adopted the computer before most of my friends — in 1982, I bought my first IBM. I’m an early adopter of a lot of things. That keeps you very on your toes, it keeps you extremely avant-garde, it keeps you current. I want to be current.”
Despite its au courant status and lack of intoxicating properties, is it a good idea to take up to 500mg of CBD per day? No one really knows. The company itself suggests consuming 1-3 gummies per day (depending on the product), a daily dose of 25 to 30 mg.
But with a bottle of 30 gummies setting consumers back U$34.99 to $49.99, depending on the product, it’s unlikely that most of us will have to contemplate the health perks or perils (if any), as a 20-per-day habit isn’t particularly accessible for the average user’s wallet.
Which is probably, as Stewart herself has been known to say, a good thing.
