SINGAPORE — Authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle more than three kilograms of cannabis in a lorry through Tuas Checkpoint on 20 December.

In a media release on Tuesday (28 December), the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said that officers from Tuas Command directed a Malaysia-registered lorry conveying a consignment of mixed hardwood and air-conditioner parts for further checks.

Upon inspection, they found a drawstring bag containing a black plastic bag behind the driver’s seat. It contained three packages, each individually wrapped in aluminium foil and transparent plastic wrapping, believed contain 3,113 grams of cannabis.

The 24-year-old Malaysian male driver was arrested and referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.

ICA said the amount of cannabis seized was sufficient to feed the addiction of 440 cannabis abusers for a week.
