Hiding in plain sight in homes all across Australia, international crime syndicates are growing millions of dollars-worth of cannabis. Senior police believe these syndicates are far more powerful than they previously suspected and say they operate across multiple states in a “scattergun” model, designed so the detection of one house does not cripple the overall business. The ABC has gained rare access to several crop houses during police raids in NSW. Reporter Nino Bucci followed the trail of these syndicates all the way to the poorest provinces of Vietnam where most crop sitters come from before arriving to Australia on student visas.
