Last fall the Alton City Council approved a measure to allow adult-use recreational cannabis businesses to locate in the city. This week, the council followed the recommendation of the Plan Commission to approve a cultivation center and to possibly open a processing plant for infusing cannabis.
There are apparently a couple of businesses looking at locating in the city. Alton Mayor Brant Walker tells The Big Z they still need licensing from the state.

Walker thinks the Broadway corridor would be a likely place for such businesses to locate, possibly in a Brownfield area like the area near Alton Steel.
