A Commerce City man has been sentenced to 14 months in federal prison for illegal cultivation of marijuana in a residence.
Zhiming Wang, 26, a Chinese national and a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., was also sentenced Friday to three years of supervised release following his prison term, according to a U.S. Attorney Office, District of Colorado news release.
On Jan. 31, 2019, investigators with the Drug Enforcement Agency and local law enforcement found 809 marijuana plants, at various stages of growth, in Wang’s home. About 1/2 pound of finished marijuana product was found in the residence.
“The cultivation of marijuana is a violation of federal law,” said U.S. Attorney Jason Dunn in the release. “Mr. Wang grew marijuana in a residential neighborhood without concern for the consequences. He was caught and is now paying the price.”
Wang appeared at the sentencing hearing free on bond, and was ordered to report to a facility designated by the Bureau of Prisons by August 21, 2020.
