The carelessness of a suspected marijuana carrier worked in favor of policemen manning a checkpoint in Lubuagan in Kalinga town, a police official said Sunday (May 31).
Brig. Gen. R’win Pagkalinawan, director of the Cordillera Administrative Region police, said his men manning the quarantine control point (QCP) in Barangay Mabilong sought suspect Rodelio Banosan’s travel authority as part of the coronavirus quarantine protocol.
Banosan was then passing the QCP at around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday on his motorcycle.
“When the suspect alighted from his motorcycle to remove his backpack and get his documents, our personnel unexpectedly saw a cellophane wrapped marijuana which is protruding from the suspect’s slightly opened back pack,” Pagkalinawan said.
Banosan immediately ran away and evaded arrest by jumping into a nearby ravine.
Pagkalinawan said the documents abandoned by Banosan led to his identification. He is now being hunted down.
Seized were 4.3 kilos of dried marijuana leaves with an estimated street value of P516,000, a motorcycle, and other documents.
