Constantine village manager Mark Honeysett told the council at a July 20 meeting that language to put adult-use marijuana on the ballot in the upcoming Nov. 3 election must be given to the county clerk by Aug. 11.

Honeysett said he is hopeful the finished ordinance could be given to the county clerk soon after the July 20 meeting.

Honeysett advised the board of changes made to the ordinance after the previous council meeting. Attorney Howard Bush adapted the ordinance to read, “For the first two years after the date of adoption of this ordinance only persons or businesses that currently have medical marijuana permits from the village are eligible for recreational permits. The council also approved language stating two microbusinesses are allowed, but only for those who currently have medical marijuana permits from the village, and we will include transporters.”

Also updated is where various types of businesses could be located in zoning districts.

Grow operations: All grow operations or growers or microbusinesses having growing operation component are to be located in the village industrial zone.
Processing and transporter: Processing facilities/operations and transporter facilities/operations, or microbusinesses having processing operations component shall be located in the village industrial zone, but with a special use permit may be located in the commercial zoning district.Microbusinesses: All microbusinesses must be located in the village industrial zone.
Retail sales: Businesses may not be located in the industrial zone, unless it has to do with a microbusiness or it is in the same location in the same building as a grow operation. Generally, retail sales operations alone are in the commercial zone or the central business district.
