Vedi Naturals would be Marlborough’s second adult-use marijuana dispensary, joining Garden Remedies.
MARLBOROUGH – A second adult-use marijuana dispensary could soon be coming to the city, this one on its west side.
Vedi Naturals is seeking a special permit to open a 2,350-square-foot facility at a vacant storefront in the Twin Boro Crossing plaza at 505 Boston Post Road West. The plaza is within a recreational and medical marijuana regulated zone, which on Rte. 20 extends from the Northborough line to Interstate 495 on the city’s west side and from the Sudbury line to Phelps Street on the city’s east end.
“It would bring good, clean, healthy business,” said Jigar Patel, founder and CEO of Vedi Naturals.
Garden Remedies opened the city’s first dispensary in June at the Marlboro Square plaza at 416 Boston Post Road East in June. The Fitchburg-based company began selling adult-use marijuana in June and medical marijuana in September.
Patel said there is the capacity for two adult-use marijuana dispensaries in the city. He chose Marlborough because it is a high-traffic area with several major highways nearby.
“These types of facilities are popping up left and right,” said Patel.
The company is seeking to open another dispensary in Somerville, where Patel’s application is currently pending.
“I just appreciate holistic remedies,” said Patel, who noted he practices yoga and other holistic healing methods.
Patel does not intend to seek a medical marijuana license for the proposed Marlborough location at this time.
He anticipates the dispensary would have a minimum of six employees on site at once, but a total number of employees has not yet been determined.
Vedi Naturals would receive two or three deliveries per week, according to the special permit application filed with the City Council.
The City Council will hold a public hearing on Vedi Natural’s special permit request on Jan. 27. The Urban Affairs Committee will then review the proposal and provide a recommendation to the full City Council.
Patel hopes to open the dispensary within a year of city and state approvals.
