BAY CITY, MI — By this weekend, adults will be able to legally buy recreational marijuana from a Bay County business.
Roots Provisioning, 3557 Wilder Road in Bangor Township, is to begin selling recreational marijuana products on Friday, Dec. 27. The business is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Roots is the first Bay County business to offer marijuana for recreational use after having recently received a “Marihuana Retailer” license from Michigan’s Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, or LARA. Two other Bangor Township business, Nature’s Medicines at 3480 E. North Union Road and PUFF Cannabis Company at 1680 Marquette Ave., have also been granted the license.
An employee of PUFF Cannabis Company said they plan to start their recreational marijuana sales within two weeks. Staff at Nature’s Medicines told MLive that they currently have their license and they are aiming to launch recreational sales around the New Year, but there was no set date for when those sales would commence.

Michigan voters legalized recreational marijuana use and possession for adults during the 2018 elections. With rules established and licenses issued, the market is beginning to take off, with the first-in-state sales taking place in Ann Arbor Dec. 1. High demand led to $3 million in sales over the first two weeks, leading to supply issues as dispensaries ran out of product on multiple days.
