Police serving a search warrant at a home on the north side of Seymour Friday found more than two pounds of marijuana and $5,000 in cash and arrested a teenager.
Tyler Elgie Allan Burke, 19, of Seymour was booked into the Jackson County Jail at 4:26 p.m. Friday on a Level 5 felony charge of dealing in marijuana. The charge was elevated from a Level 6 felony because Burke has a previous conviction for dealing in marijuana, according to a news release from Seymour Police Department.
Burke’s arrest occurred after Seymour officers assisted probation officers with Jackson County Community Corrections with a home visit at a residence in the 200 block of East 13th Street. During that visit, investigators were able to develop probable cause to search the residence and obtained a search warrant from Jackson Superior Court I at 2:06 p.m. Friday, police said.
Detective and officers with the city along with task force officers with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration served the warrant at 2:21 p.m. and found the marijuana and cash, a Beretta 9 mm and a drug paraphernalia, police said.
A large portion of the marijuana that was seized was packaged for sale/distribution, police said.
The investigation is on-going.
Burke was being held without bond pending his initial court hearing.
A Level 5 felony is punishable by one to six years in prison upon conviction.
