APPLE VALLEY — A deputy conducting a traffic stop Thursday night discovered about 70 pounds of cannabis in a pickup truck.

The driver, 26-year-old Juan Haros, was arrested and booked for possession and transportation of marijuana, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

Inmate records show Haros was cited and released Friday morning.

Deputy Jacob Rollins, with the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station, pulled the white Toyota pickup over at about 9:41 p.m. Thursday at Bear Valley and Central roads after he observed it driving with no lights on, Sheriff’s officials said.

“Deputy Rollins immediately smelled a strong odor of marijuana,” the Sheriff’s statement said.

Haros was also driving without a driver’s license, according to the statement.

Rollins’ search of the truck turned up the approximately 70 pounds of marijuana in several large bags.
