MATTAPOISETT — Mattapoisett Police recovered a replica AK-47, large knife, large amounts of marijuana and $9,580 in cash from the car used during a robbery in town Tuesday night.

Mattapoisett Police reported on the department’s Facebook page, “As a result of a follow up investigation of the incident that took place on Sept. 1, detectives from the Mattapoisett Police Dept. executed a search warrant on the 2013 Nissan Altima which was used during the robbery. A search of the vehicle produced large amounts of marijuana, replica AK-47, large knife, scales, multiple cell phones, and $9,580 in cash.

The currency and vehicle were seized by the Mattapoisett Police Dept. pending forfeiture. Additional charges are pending at this time.”

Three Wareham were arrested following the armed robbery Tuesday night. Sept. 1.

Mattapoisett Police charged 22-year old Spencer Ellenwood, 28-year old Enrique Gomes, and 28-year old Saveion Brandon, all of Wareham, with armed robbery while masked, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and breaking and entering into a motor vehicle with the intent to commit a felony.

At approximately 7 p.m., Mattapoisett Police received a 911 call of an alleged armed robbery involving a firearm. A suspect vehicle, described as a black Nissan Altima, reportedly fled the scene.

Mattapoisett Police Chief Mary Lyons issued a press statement saying that Sgt. King and Officers Parker and Perez immediately responded to the scene and conducted an investigation, which uncovered a description and registration of the suspect vehicle. She said the three men were spotted traveling north on Route 18 by New Bedford Police Officer Hank Turgeon.

“All area Police Departments were immediately notified of the vehicle by Mattapoisett Dispatch, Officer Borges. Shortly thereafter, New Bedford Police, Officer Turgeon observed the suspect vehicle traveling north on Route 18,” Lyons said in a statement.

“The vehicle continued east onto I-195. A motor vehicle stop was conducted on I-195 East in New Bedford by New Bedford Police and Mattapoisett Police units. Three suspects were placed under arrest, taken into custody and transported to Mattapoisett Police Department.”

The Plymouth County Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Fairhaven Police also provided assistance.
