A Fulton County man who authorities believe was dealing heroin in Athens was arrested recently after police found him with an undisclosed amount of drugs.
The arrest was made by the Northeast Georgia Regional Drug Task Force about 1 p.m. July 10 at a location on Baxter Drive, a road off Baxter Street near Alps Road.
Athens-Clarke police identified the suspect as Edrichus R. Sykes, 44, of Griffin Street, Atlanta.
Task Force members received information that Sykes was dealing drugs in Athens and located him at the location along with his 2014 Ford F-150 pickup, according to an Athens-Clarke police report.
Officers charged the suspect with trafficking in drugs, although police would not disclose what drugs this charge entailed. He was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and marijuana with the intent to distribute.
Officers also charged Sykes with possession of a weapon during a crime, but the Task Force would not disclose what type weapon he allegedly possessed.
Police said that Sykes was recently arrested in Marietta for suspected distribution of narcotics.
In that case, Marietta police stopped Sykes’ Ford pickup in March for having a suspended license plate and arrested him on 12 felony charges.
Marietta police told Fox-5 News that they found him in possession of numerous drugs, including psilocybin mushrooms, crack cocaine, meth, marijuana, MDMA pills, oxycodone pills and several other controlled substances.
Police also seized two pistols and a rifle, according to the report.
Sykes remained in the Clarke County Jail on Friday without bond.
