BIG RAPIDS — Lume Cannabis Co., a marijuana provisioning chain, intends to open an outlet at 113 S. Michigan Ave. on Monday, store employees confirmed to the Pioneer on Friday.

Staffers at Lume said the store would open as a medical marijuana facility at first, while the city of Big Rapids votes on whether to allow recreational marijuana businesses to open Tuesday. Depending on the outcome of the vote, they said, Lume could also soon start selling marijuana for recreational purposes soon.

When it opens, Lume will be the first medical marijuana store to open in the city. The location was formerly the site of Glamare, a women’s clothing dealer.

Lume operates Lit Provisioning Centers in Evart and Lume stores in Owosso, Honor and Kalamazoo. Previous news releases issued by the firm said it will have 11 stores open by April, 20 stores by the end of 2020 and 100 stores across the state by the end of 2024.
