Cannabis sales in Colorado and Illinois reached record highs in July and August, data from both states reveals.

According to the Colorado Department of Revenue, adult-use cannabis sales eclipsed $183 million in July and $954 million year-to-date.

Meanwhile, sales of medical marijuana in The Centennial State also hit an all-time high of $43.2 million, bringing the year-to-date total to more than $250 million.

Combined, Colorado cannabis retailers have sold more than $1.2 billion worth of product in 2020, which is nearly as much as was sold in all of 2016, historical records show.

In Illinois, sales of adult-use cannabis have surpassed $364 million on the year after a record $63.9 million worth of marijuana offerings were sold in August.

Month-over-month marijuana sales grew about 5%, and consumers purchased over 1.3 million products, according to data from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). In-state residents purchased $46.7 million worth of cannabis while out-of-staters bought $17.2 million.

Recall that adult-use dispensaries in Illinois sold nearly $61 million worth of cannabis in July, then a record. In fact, sales of cannabis in Illinois have grown every single month since February.

For their part, Colorado dispensaries have grown sales every single month since April, when they sold roughly $112 million worth of product.
