The company is attempting to open medical marijuana dispensaries in Bordentown Township and Mount Laurel. It currently operates numerous dispensaries, including on in Camden County.

BORDENTOWN — A national medical marijuana company is seeking to open a dispensary in the township.

Curaleaf, which already operates in Camden County, next month is to present preliminary and final site plans to the planning board.

Curaleaf hopes to receive approval to modify an exiting building to operate a medical marijuana dispensary on Route 130 north.

The national company also is seeking a variance for a driveway.

The dispensary is to be built on two parcels, totaling about four acres, at 191 Route 130 North, public records show.

The existing building — used by Stony Brook Sew and Vacuums — sits at the front of the property with a parking lot at the back. The property is bordered to the north by the Skybridge Inn & Suites.

In its application, Curaleaf noted that the company may need additional approvals from the township and said it will seek any other variances, approvals or waivers “deemed necessary.”

In an application to Mount Laurel, Curaleaf said its proposed Mount Laurel and Bordentown locations are needed to take pressure off its Bellmawr, Camden County location, which, the company said, cannot handle the intense retail demand.

In Mount Laurel, the proposed facility at 1315 Route 73 sits about 800 feet from a residential area surrounding Amberfield Drive and about 950 feet from Just Children Child Care, a daycare center at 14000 Commerce Parkway, according to the company. Township regulations state a requirement of at least 1,000 feet from residential communities, schools, churches and day cares.

Curaleaf is the nation’s “largest cannabis-based business” with locations in at least 14 states, according to the company. It has operated out of Camden County since 2015.

The application will be heard by the Bordentown Township Planning Board on Aug. 13, 7 p.m. through video teleconferencing.
