Three people were arrested following the three unrelated stops, including 24-year-old Freddy Parra Zepeda, of Corning, California, who was allegedly found in possession of 71 pounds of marijuana.

According to court documents, Parra Zepeda was stopped at 10:58 a.m. on April 12 in Davison County for driving 84 mph on I-90. When asked if there were illegal drugs in the 2019 Dodge Ram 2500 he had been driving, Parra Zepeda reportedly said there was some marijuana in the center console. During a search of the vehicle, the trooper allegedly found a small amount of marijuana and $4,041 in cash in the center console, as well as two suitcases and a plastic storage tote in the truck bed containing 71 pounds of marijuana.

One day earlier, the same trooper stopped an eastbound vehicle that was reportedly driving 69 mph in a 65 mph zone in Hanson County, at mile marker 335 on I-90. Inside the vehicle, driven by 33-year-old Justin Grunewald, of Golden, Colorado, were allegedly found 40 grams of butane hash oil and 3.12 pounds of marijuana.

Two miles west in Davison County, a Mercury Milan was stopped on April 8 for having a broken brake light, according to an affidavit. A police dog reportedly indicated to an odor of illegal drugs in the vehicle, and a search was conducted, allegedly yielding about two pounds of marijuana, which the driver, 29-year-old Desmin Williams, of Lakeland, Florida, said was intended for himself and his family. Two and a half pills suspected to be ecstasy were also found.

Grunewald and Williams were both charged with possession with intent to distribute more than one pound of marijuana, a Class 3 felony; possession of between one and 10 pounds of marijuana, a Class 4 felony; two counts of possession of a controlled substance, a Class 5 felony; And possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with suspended licenses, both of which are Class 2 misdemeanors.

Parra Zepeda was also charged with possession with intent to distribute more than one pound of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as possession of more than 10 pounds of marijuana, a Class 3 felony.
