INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Gov. Ron DeSantis this month issued an order mandating people stay at home to help curb COVID-19.
But exceptions were made for “essential activities,” such as attending religious services conducted in houses of worship.
Exceptions were not made, however, for “going to a friend’s house to smoke marijuana.”

A 26-year-old Vero Beach woman found this out the hard way on April 20, according to an arrest affidavit.
Indian River County sheriff’s investigators went to the 4300 block of Old Dixie Highway in Vero Beach after a suspicious incident.
Investigators saw the 26-year-old woman walking south on some railroad tracks.
She provided deputies “several reasons (why) she was out and not abiding by the stay-at-home order, one of these reasons was that she was going to a friend’s house to smoke marijuana.”
