A man was arrested earlier this month for taking approximately $10 from a tip jar at a marijuana dispensary in Garden City.

Abdi Ilmi, 32, was charged with third-degree burglary and theft July 12 following an incident at Nature’s Herbs Marijuana Dispensary in Garden City, according to an arrest document from the Garden City police.

Ilmi, who is in the Weld County Jail on two bonds totaling $5,500, was first taken into custody at the dispensary on July 10 for two active warrants from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.

Two days later, a security guard at Nature’s Herbs contacted Garden City police after reviewing security camera footage while completing a report on Ilmi’s July 10 arrest.

The security officer discovered Ilmi twice taking money from the tip jar, and sent a copy of surveillance footage to police. The footage was too grainy to determine the exact number of bills and the amount of money Ilmi took from the jar, according to the arrest affidavit.

Ilmi is scheduled for a disposition hearing at 2:30 p.m. July 31 in Weld County District Court in Greeley.
