A marijuana shop that delivers to Grand Rapids, East Lansing, Bay City and more is expanding its coverage area to include the Lexington and Port Huron area.
According to a Tuesday press release, Clio based Freddie’s will expand its home delivery service to the Lexington and Port Huron areas.
With each delivery in these areas, customers will receive a $10 coupon to the Water Tower Sports Pub in Lexington, which is known for its pizza and fries.
“Pizza and pot are a great combination,” said Barry Goodman, Freddie’s co-owner.
Orders with Freddie’s need to be placed two days in advance using the business’s website, freddiesjoint.com. The customer’s name, address, phone number, and drivers license, state issued identification number or medical marijuana card information is required.
Orders must be for $150 cash or more and state mandated limits of 2.5 ounces of marijuana or equivalent product per day is still in place. The customer placing the order must be the one receiving the order when the delivery is made.
Every delivery will be in a separate locked box and will not be opened until the recipient shows their identification, Goodman said.
Initially, Freddie’s had planned to deliver to Water Tower Sports Pub’s parking lot in Lexington and have customers pick up product there as a “perfect blend of two distinct businesses” merging together, he said.
The plan was to encourage anyone in the Thumb area to stop by Water Tower Sports Pub on Fridays for a bite to eat and then pick up some marijuana from the delivery driver in the parking lot to enjoy at home.
However, the Marijuana Regulatory Agency states all deliveries must be made to the customer’s residence and therefore Freddie’s is unable to deliver to the pub’s parking lot, according to a press release.
“Water Tower Sports Pub was fantastic to work with and we want to keep that relationship going,” Goodman said. “They have an outstanding restaurant with a great menu.”
Both Goodman and Greg Redman, co-owner of the Water Tower Sports Pub, thought there was a need for the marijuana delivery service in the area.
In a phone interview Tuesday, Redman said he tries to support the Thumb as best he can and he has customers with concerns about the distance it takes to get recreational or medical marijuana.
He thought at this point a marijuana brick and mortar would be open more locally, but that hasn’t happened yet. So he wanted the partnership to help so people wouldn’t have to take a three hour round trip to get what they need.
And obviously, with the way things are with the pandemic, businesses want to do anything they can do to help one another, Redman said.
