HOPKINTON – A Clinton man had more than seven times the legal limit of marijuana in his car on Thursday when police arrested him for stealing an Amazon package from a front stoop.

Police arrested Damien James Lee, 18, after the 1:52 p.m. theft from a Jamie Lane home, acting Police Chief Joseph Bennett said on Friday.

The resident witnessed the theft of the box, which contained some items meant for a child. The resident chased after Lee, but Lee jumped in a car and drove off, Bennett said.

Police set up a wide perimeter in the general area to try to find the car, and an officer working on a detail saw it and called it in. Police pulled the car over on West Main Street.

“We put out a wide net and we were able to catch him,” said Bennett. “He had thrown the items out when he was driving, but he cooperated and told us where he threw it. We were able to find it.”

Police took Lee into custody and was about to have his car towed. Before it was towed, police did an inventory search of the car.

“We found 7.8 ounces of marijuana in the car, as well as items consistent with the distribution of marijuana,” Bennett said.

The legal limit of marijuana to be possessed for one person is 1 ounce.

Bennett did not know the street value of the marijuana, but according to Hudson’s Temescal Wellness website, they sell an ounce of marijuana for $350 at the dispensary.

Along with the large amount of pot, Lee also had $2,200 in cash and more than 20 pills believed to be Adderall, Bennett said.

Police charged Lee, of 16 Beacon St., with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of more than 1 ounce of marijuana, possession of a Class E substance and larceny of property worth less than $250.

Lee was scheduled to be arraigned Friday, but his arraignment results were unavailable.
