A 19-year-old Reading man was arrested on drug charges after officers from the city police department, Berks County sheriff’s office and U.S. marshals went to his home to try to apprehend a wanted person, investigators said Thursday.
As officers went to the front door of the home in the 500 block of North 11th Street about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, deputies in the alley behind the house saw Deuri Alonso-Burgos put a trash bag on the roof outside the third-floor bedroom window.
According to the criminal complaint:
A resident allowed officers into the home to check for the wanted person. As they went up the steps to the third floor, they followed the scent of cannabis to a bedroom and saw some marijuana on a dresser.
They recovered the bag from the roof outside the widow.
Alonso-Burgos admitted to putting the bag outside. Officers found about 3 1/2 ounces of bulk marijuana and 10 bags containing a total of about 1 1/2 ounces.
They also found a vacuum sealer and materials used for packaging cannabis.
Authorities didn’t reveal the name of the person they were searching for at the home.
Alonso-Burgos was committed to Berks County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail following arraignment before Senior District Judge Gregory Scott in Reading Central Court.
Alonso-Burgos is charged with possessing and intending to deliver marijuana and related offenses.
