SUDBURY – A group of young men taking turns firing a replica gun in the parking lot of a Boston Post Road apartment complex Thursday led police to more than 50 pounds of marijuana worth a quarter of a million dollars and to the discovery of a juvenile who had been missing more than a year, authorities said.

Police arrested Miguel Teo, 23, of Denver, after the 2:30 p.m. incident at 655 Boston Post Road, Police Chief Scott Nix said Friday.

Police initially went to the apartment complex parking lot after a report of someone with a possible handgun.

“We located a number of individuals in a vehicle,” said Nix. “It turned out to be a replica firearm that they were using to shoot at things in the complex.”

Inside the vehicle, in plain view, officers saw a large amount of marijuana, well above the legal limit of 2 ounces for personal use that in Massachusetts may be possessed outside of a residence.

Also in the vehicle were materials typically used for the sale of marijuana: scales, a large amount of money and multiple boxes of THC edibles, Nix said in a release.

A second person on the scene, when asked for his identity, kept giving police fake names, but police later determined he was a teen who had been missing for a year. Police did not say where he was missing from.

Police also got a warrant to search the apartment of a third man, who lives at 655 Boston Post Road, and discovered more drugs there.

“The search of this apartment yielded nearly 50 pounds of marijuana, thousands of dollars in cash, and hundreds of pounds of THC infused edibles,” said Nix in the release. “The estimated street value of the combined marijuana and THC products is $250,000.”

The resident of that apartment has yet to be charged, but when told of his potential charges, he “panicked” and tried to harm himself, police said.

“Officers were quick to react to this behavior and restrain the individual prior to any serious harm,” Nix wrote in the release. “The individual was transported to the hospital where they were evaluated for these minor self-inflicted injuries.”

Police arrested Teo and charged him with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of THC with the intent to distribute and malicious destruction of property.

The unnamed juvenile and the resident of 655 Boston Post Road have not been charged, but Nix said the case is an “active” investigation.

Police said this incident was serious because it involved both a large amount of marijuana, as well as the use of a replica handgun that looked real being fired in public.

“Not only did this incident result in the seizure of a large quantity of marijuana and edibles, but also this occurred within a few yards of a playground and bus stop,” Nix said in the release. “These edibles were packed with the identical names of household snack brands, and would be indistinguishable to children.”
