Evanston police arrested a Chicago man Wednesday, charging him twice in connection with cannabis possession and once in connection with resisting or obstructing a police officer.

After an investigative traffic stop in the 7400 block of North Wolcott Avenue, Evanston Police Cmdr. Brian Henry said officers pressed charges when they found 18 grams of cannabis in the center console between the passenger seat and the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

EPD also pressed charges for the possession of cannabis by a passenger and for resisting or obstructing a police officer, Henry said. The man did not make physical contact with any officers, according to the report, Henry said.

“He didn’t want to take his hands out of his pockets,” Henry said. “He was pulling away from officers, wasn’t compliant with the search… (he was) kicking his legs, pulling his arms back. He didn’t strike an officer, but he balled his hands into fists.”

Two arresting offices and two backup officers were at the scene, Henry said. An officer made the traffic stop after recognizing the passenger as an individual with a court-issued warrant based on a case from Morton Grove.

The individual is not yet scheduled to appear in court, according to an EPD news release.
