The Webb County Sheriff’s Office arrested a teenager for allegedly transporting 300 pounds of marijuana.

At about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, deputies were traveling south on FM 1472 when they noticed a white vehicle about 3 miles south of FM 255 on the side of the road with its emergency lights on.

Deputies approached the vehicle and observed two people run into the brush. Authorities said they also noticed a large black bundle on the ground next to the opened rear passenger door.

The driver remained at the scene and was detained. Deputies then observed three additional bundles inside the vehicle. The bundles contained 300 pounds of marijuana and had an estimated street value of $90,000.

Meanwhile, authorities identified the driver as Juan Andres Moreno, 17, of Laredo. He was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana. He was later released the same day on bond, according to Webb County Jail records.

“I congratulate our narcotics division for a job well done. I remind the public to report any suspicious activities by calling 956-415-BUST (2878). You can be eligible for a cash reward,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar.
