An Edmond medical marijuana business is shut down and fined more than half a million dollars after the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority said their product tested above the legal limits for dangerous pesticides.

According to a filing by OMMA, the company, Moon Mix, did not test the marijuana like it legally is supposed to and sold products containing dangerous pesticides. Moon Mix was the center of a special News 9 investigation last month where users of batch 158 told us they got very sick..

“Bumps started popping up in my mouth and the sore throat started acting up real bad,” Kelly Meksula told us. “A couple more days the bumps on my mouth started to get bigger like blisters and I told my wife this isn’t right. Something’s wrong.”

OMMA said through their investigation they found three batches of Moon Mix that tested above the legal limits for pesticides. All were sold to customers. OMMA later recalled all three batches.

One test of batch 154 showed four different pesticides testing above the legal limit.

“The level of Bifenazte found was 773 parts per million when the allowable threshold under law is less than 0.5 ppm,” according to the document.

In addition, the OMMA said Moon Mix did not complete the required testing on the three batches and on at least 15 occasions bought marijuana without first obtaining test results.

Collin Rocket is an attorney representing a handful of clients who he says have gotten sick after using the tainted weed.

“Some of the pesticides we’re talking about when heated up and vaporized turn to hydrogen cyanide gas which could kill you,” said Rocket.

The OMMA said Moon Mix also bought out of state products and sold to family and friends which is illegal.

OMMA is fining Moon Mix $541,000 for the violations and told the company to cease operations immediately.

News 9 reached out to Moon Mix’s attorney for a comment.

A Moon Mix spokesperson said they have received the application and the company’s attorney is preparing a response.
