Now that the Arizona Supreme Court is allowing recreational marijuana to appear on the 2020 ballot, some industry organizations vow to fight the measure.

“Passing pot legalization via the ballot box is rife with potentially dangerous consequences,” said Garrick Taylor, senior vice president of government relations for the Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

While the Greater Phoenix Chamber hasn’t taken a formal stance on the issue yet, there are concerns, added Todd Sanders, the chamber’s president and CEO. The Supreme Court issued its formal ruling late on Aug. 20.

“The Greater Phoenix Chamber will be evaluating our formal position in the next few weeks, but there are legitimate safety concerns from the business community regarding a real possibility of having employees performing work while under the influence of marijuana,” Sanders told the Business Journal.
